MILENA SOLOMUN (FIN)

Milena Solomun is a singer/songwriter who plays her own original style of folk music with a single-minded punk attitude. She was born in Belgrade, grew up in Berlin and currently lives in Helsinki. Her musical career began in Berlin, where she cut her teeth in local punk bands. As a perennial outsider who feels at home wherever she goes, her art is driven by an endless search for her place in this curious world.

Her dark, poetic songs are cut with an acid wit that always finds humour in the never-ending im/possibilities of life. Growing up with the sensation that nothing was as it seemed, Milena was always trying to see behind the veil. Her fresh, uncompromising music is born in the gaps where opposites collide. People and places never cease to amaze her, and we recognize our own reflections in the cracked and splintered mirror she holds before us. These are songs you don’t hear every day.

She has recorded three albums with friends in different cities: Zürich Files, Helsinki Files and London Files can be found at her website:

“Milena is a pure one-off. Her music comes from some undefinable interzone that makes it feel both strangely familiar and completely unique. She unites distant worlds that meet but never merge, so you’re never quite sure where you are – you only know you want to be there.” Don McCracken, Sonic Yurt

– Tuomo Tuovinen, Sorbus Galleria
